Welcome to the TaoTao-project!


The TaoTao-project is a research platform and virtual library focusing on Chinese Medicine and acupuncture.
The project aims to provide means to read and study ancient philosophical, religious and medical writings. From the wide collection one can easily find interesting high quality material for reading and research. TaoTao project currently consist of a library, search tool, dictionary and a word for word matrix translator for machine aided translation.
There is also forum providing means of communication between researchers.

7.3.2010 TaoTao-server back online.


21.2.2010 TaoTao-server is being relocated. Login/Registration disabled.


1.12.2009 TaoTao moved to new domain: taotao.fi



11.10.2009 Downloader has been fixed.

Old downloader had problems with some download managers. Now they should be fixed.
Resume support has also been added to ease big downloads.


4.10.2009 Translations section added to main page.


25.9.2009 Forums are now available for users.

The formus were reseted and are now available to registered users


16.8.2009 Registration reopened.


15.8.2009 Forum has been added inside the TaoTao-project.

Forums provide means for communication between users. The wish-list has also been relocated within TaoTao-project.
Shared translation projects will soon become possible as new translation module is being developed.

1.8.2009 Improvements to searching.

Searching works by an author now shows also the translations by the author.
Searching by title now only shows works matching all the given criteria.


3.7.2009 Buddhist extension to the dictionary added.

Extension brings more than 16000 Buddhist expressions to the dictionary and matrix translator.
Next in schedule is writings from Chinese Buddhist Canon.


30.6.2009 Changes in the dictionary phrase support.

The dictionary now searches pronunciations without tones. For example when searching for dān tián, it can now be searched with dan tian.


21.6.2009 Matrix translator now gives an option to select context for translation.

In translator it is now possible to select context to improve the translation.
Phrases in matrix translator has been enabled again.


19.6.2009 Matrix translator optimization has been done.

Matrix translator has been optimized for new language additions. New way of finding ideo/logogrammatic combinations has been developed.


18.6.2009 More than 6000 Lìshu images added to the dictionary.

There is also few small improvements in graphical layout.


14.6.2009 Additions to alchemy and phytotherapy.

Many classics of western alchemy added.
Early 20th century medical books about herbal remedies added.
